Eggnog, Anyone?

I had heard about it plenty.  In fact, I seemed to be surrounded by it.  Coworkers, friends from high school, characters on my TV shows - everyone was getting pregnant.  Having turned 30 in November I was definitely adjusting to the idea of starting a family and Justin and I had decided to go ahead and give it the old college try.  It was the Thursday before Christmas and we were discussing what provisions we needed for the weekend, specifically which of the two we should we stock up: whiskey or wine.  We had a dinner party with friends planned for the next night and I wanted to see if I would be having my eggnog straight or spiked.

And so, after the ever so romantic pee-on-a-stick I was expecting it to display the lonely little one line that I was getting used to seeing.  They had all given me a one line/negative/not pregnant the previous month as well as the couple I had already taken a few days prior.  But this time something life-altering happened.  That magic little stick gave me an extra line.  We were going to have a baby.

We both looked at each other with the same question in our eyes, what's next?  Justin offered up that I immediately chug some vitamins (mind you, I had already been taking a daily prenatal vitamin for the past 2-3 months) or do some yoga stretches or should we just go buy a crib?  After taking a few moments to let it (sort of) sink in, we decided we should celebrate, after all, this is huge!  So does this call for that reserved bottle of wine we've been saving for a special occasion or should we have a shot of --oohh yeeaahh that's right, now that your...you can't...hmmm.

So here I am now a week later, with baby a whole 5 weeks in the making (according the the strange ancient ambigram of pregnancy that would leave Robert Langdon dubious) and I'm looking ahead at this long unknown road in front of us with a lot of questions, hope and excitement and the one thing I do know for certain is for the next 9+ months I'll take that eggnog straight.
